Echo and Narcissus

by Valhjim

about

This track was inspired by the story of Echo and Narcissus, found in Ovid's Metamorphoses. There, Ovid tells us how Echo, a mountain nymph or Oread, fell in love with Narcissus. Echo had been punished by Zeus' wife, Hera, because of jealousy, condemning her to be unable to speak, and to repeat only the last few words uttered by somebody else.

Narcissus was an extremely handsome young man. He falls in love with his own image reflected on a stream. As narcissus calls out for his companions, Echo repeats his last words. Puzzled, Narcissus tries to establish a conversation, trying to persuade Echo to come to him and make love.

I hope the music inspires the listener to re-create in his/her mind this beautiful story.
